Once again, Prince has created a shitstorm of controversy.
If you live in the UK, don’t forget to pick up your copy of the Daily Mail on Sunday. If you do, you’ll receive a FREE copy of Prince’s new album nearly a month before it’s due to hit the stands.
If you’re a Prince fan, you’re probably thrilled. If you’re in the business of selling records, this is hardly good news. Paul Quirk, co-chairman of the Entertainment Retailers Association, is not amused.
“The Artist formerly known as Prince should know that with behavior like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores,” Quirk said at a music conference in London on Thursday. “It is an insult to all those record stores who have supported Prince throughout his career. It is yet another example of the damaging covermount culture which is destroying any perception of value around recorded music.”
Rock on.
